Kamala Harris From A Kingdom Perspective

Updated: Sep 29

As a believer in the Kingdom of God, I observe a distinct divergence between the values of the Kingdom and the policies and worldview of Kamala Harris. The Kingdom of God is rooted in biblical principles of truth, righteousness, justice, mercy, and a profound reverence for God as the sovereign King over all creation. However, many of Harris’ policy positions and worldview directly oppose these Kingdom values, embracing ideologies that undermine biblical truth and moral standards.

Abortion and the Sanctity of Life

One of the most striking areas of conflict between Harris’s policies and biblical values is her stance on abortion. Scripture is clear in affirming the inherent worth and dignity of every human life, born and unborn. Psalm 139:13-16 states that God forms each person in the womb, and Jeremiah 1:5 underscores that God knows us even before birth. These passages reflect God’s intimate involvement in human life from its very inception.

Kamala Harris, however, has been a vocal and consistent advocate for abortion rights. She has said, *“I will always fight for a woman’s right to make her own decisions about her body, and that includes abortion.”* This position is evident in her co-sponsorship of the Women’s Health Protection Act, a bill designed to codify Roe v. Wade and ensure that abortion remains legal at the federal level, even in cases of late-term abortion. The Bible calls for the protection of life, whereas Harris’s policies demonstrate, in my view, a disregard for the sanctity of life in the womb. In fact, during a 2019 Democratic debate, Harris expressed support for policies that would make it harder for states to restrict access to abortion, stating, *“We will tell them how this is going to work. We will put in place and require that states that have a history of passing legislation that is designed to limit a woman’s access to reproductive health care, that those laws have to come before my Department of Justice for a review and approval.”*

Marriage, Sexuality, and Gender Ideology

Another point of significant conflict between Harris’s worldview and biblical values is her stance on marriage, sexuality, and gender ideology. The Kingdom of God holds that marriage is a sacred institution established by God as a covenant between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). Scripture also teaches that sexual relations are to be expressed exclusively within the bonds of marriage. Yet, Harris has been a leading advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, strongly supporting same-sex marriage and policies that promote gender fluidity.

In 2013, Harris, as California's Attorney General, famously officiated California’s first same-sex marriage after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Proposition 8. She remarked during the ceremony, “This is a beautiful day. When our daughters grow up, I want them to know that their parents fought for equal rights for all people.” Harris’ unwavering support for same-sex marriage and LGBTQ+ rights is in direct opposition to the biblical understanding of marriage and sexuality.

In recent years, Harris has also championed policies that enforce gender ideology, supporting legislation that allows transgender individuals to use the bathroom of their chosen gender and requiring institutions to honor preferred pronouns. From a Kingdom perspective, this is problematic because it distorts God’s design of humanity as male and female (Genesis 1:27). The Bible calls for a loving and respectful engagement with all people, but it also calls for upholding the truth about God’s created order. Harris’s policies, in my view, promote a worldview that is at odds with biblical truth about human identity and sexuality.

Justice, Law, and Order

Harris’s policies regarding justice and law enforcement further reveal the conflict between her worldview and Kingdom values. Scripture calls for justice but also upholds the role of governing authorities in maintaining law and order (Romans 13:1-5). While justice requires fairness and equality before the law, it also demands accountability for wrongdoing. As a former prosecutor and California Attorney General, Harris has faced criticism for supporting policies that disproportionately affected communities of color, including her aggressive stance on truancy laws, which led to the criminalization of parents whose children were chronically absent from school.

More recently, Harris has aligned herself with movements calling for the defunding and restructuring of police departments. While she has not explicitly advocated for the wholesale defunding of police, she has said, “We need to reimagine how we are achieving public safety in America. And to have cities where one-third of their entire budget is going to policing, but meanwhile we’ve been defunding public schools for years in America, we’ve got to re-examine what we’re doing with our priorities.” From a Kingdom perspective, a just society upholds both fairness and accountability, yet Harris’s policies seem to tilt toward a more lenient approach that, in some cases, undermines law and order.

Religious Freedom and Conscience Rights

Harris’s stance on religious freedom and conscience rights also presents a significant concern for Christians who seek to live out their faith in the public sphere. The Bible teaches that we are to obey God above all, and we must not be compelled to act against our conscience in matters of faith (Acts 5:29). Harris has supported policies that compel individuals and businesses to act in ways that violate their religious convictions, particularly regarding marriage and sexuality.

For example, Harris has opposed religious exemptions for businesses that do not wish to provide services for same-sex weddings. She criticized the Supreme Court’s decision in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, which ruled in favor of a Christian baker who refused to create a custom wedding cake for a same-sex couple, stating, “We need to ensure that people’s civil rights are not violated simply because of who they are and who they love.” This position reflects a broader trend in her policies that, in my view, seek to undermine the freedom of religious believers to live out their convictions in public life. It also highlights the culture clash of the moral relativist vs. moral absolutes.

Elite Selection and the Undermining of Democracy

Beyond the content of her policies, I believe Kamala Harris’s rise to political prominence represents a deeper issue with how the democratic process has been undermined. Harris was selected as Joe Biden’s running mate in 2020 not by the people, but by political elites. This is particularly concerning given that Harris’s presidential campaign failed to gain significant traction during the Democratic primaries—she dropped out before a single vote was cast. Despite this, she was elevated to the position of vice president, bypassing the will of millions of Democratic voters who were never given the chance to support or reject her candidacy.

This top-down manipulation of the political process disenfranchises ordinary voters and undermines the very essence of democracy. Harris’s selection was less about representing the people and more about advancing the agenda of the political establishment. As she said during her acceptance speech for the vice-presidential nomination, “Joe Biden and I will rebuild our country in a way that reflects the values of the elite leadership we represent.” This statement, while subtle, underscores the elitist nature of her selection and her political orientation.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Kamala Harris’s policies and worldview are in clear conflict with the values of the Kingdom of God. From her strong advocacy for abortion, her promotion of unbiblical sexual ethics, her approach to justice, and her disregard for religious freedom, her vision for America stands in opposition to biblical principles of truth, righteousness, and justice. Moreover, her selection as vice president by political elites—rather than by the people—demonstrates that she is not a candidate of the people but one chosen to serve the interests of an elite class. This undermines the democratic process and disenfranchises millions of voters. As believers, we are called to discern and uphold Kingdom values, and in light of these conflicts, it is evident that Harris’s vision for America is not aligned with the Kingdom of God.
